Best Easiest Ways How To Do Sublimation On Black Shirts

Firstly I want to tell you that the Sublimation Technique is generally done on light-shaded or white-colored shirts but there is a hack through which you can also sublimate on the dark-colored shirts.

I will tell you 2 different cases where you can sublimate the dark-colored shirts while using bleach and the other way is the most helpful and easiest way How to Do Sublimation On Black Shirts without using bleach.

Let’s begin.

How To Sublimation On Black Shirts: Explanation

In my experience in sublimating shirts, I have concluded that there are only 2 working ways by which you can sublimate color shirts. The first one involves the use of bleach which needs to be done to a specific area of the shirts and is also pocket-friendly.

The other one is a little bit costly but the cost is worth the outcome. This method is known as Easy Sisersubli. Both the methods work perfectly fine but the minor differences between them are that one method is way easier to apply but a bit higher cost and the other one is less costly but some people may find it tricky.

Do not worry I will try to explain both methods in the simplest manner possible.

Supplies Needed By you

  1. A Printer that can sublimate t-shirts – The primary and most important thing that you must have is a shirt and a sublimating printer. Also, if you have a Cricut Sublimation Printer at your home, it is also ok because the Cricut sublimation technique involves a print and cut feature with the help of Cricut Explore cutter3. My suggestions would be ET-15000 and ET-2760.
  2. Sublimation Ink and Papers – Choose the ink and paper that can go hand in hand with the sublimation printer. The key point to note here is you must check the ICC profiles too. I am currently having Hiipoo Sublimation Ink and HTV-Ront Paper.
  3. A Plane Surface Press – This press should have at least a temperature of up to 400f, which is required in how to do sublimation on Black Shirts.
  4. Pure Dark Polyester Shirt – My recommendation should be to try to use a 100 percent polyester shirt of dark color, you will find many shirts online that say that they are pure polyester but generally they are lying, they use half percentage of cotton and half of polyester instead of complete polyester.
  5. Butcher Paper – For pressing the Iron Press onto the black shirt you have to place the Butcher paper on the shirt to avoid any kind of damage to the shirt.
  6. Flame Resistant Tape – Fire-resistant tape is commonly used while taping paper, shirts, and other things.
  7. Vinyl Sheet – For tracing the design a vinyl sheet is preferred.
  8. Cutter – The vinyl sheet is cut by using a vinyl cutter.

Bleaching Gadgets

  1. Fires Resistant Gloves – Gloves are important while bleaching and press work.
  2. Bleaching Spray – Bleaching a black shirt can only be possible using a bleaching spray.
  3. Dryer or heat Machine gun – A dry Gun or heat gun is used to avoid any bubbles on the shirt when the liquid is placed on it.

Detailed Process Method 1: Step By Step Explanation

Step 1 – Establishing a current free connection between the Printer and the Cricut.

The first step in the process of how to do sublimation on black shirts is connecting the Printer with the Cricut. After the connection is secured upload your favorite design in the Cricut and click on the print button and then the cut button.

Use Sublimation PrinterI am using Epson ET- 15000, previously discussed, to print all your designs.

Step 2 – Mat Loading

Now moving forward in the process, the second step is to put or load the sublimation paper with the design on it into the Cricut Machine to cut down the photo of the design.

Simultaneously cut the vinyl sheet. After you have done this start the process of weeding, which means removing excess vinyl from the vinyl sheet. After this process is completed start bleaching the specified area you want to sublimate.

Step 3 – The Bleaching Process Starts

As you begin with the Bleaching Process there are a few points that you should keep in mind. Firstly use cardboard in the process by putting or placing it in between the shirt so that the back area of the shirt will not get damaged. Secondly, notice that there are any type of wrinkles or bubbles forming on the shirt because it will ruin the process of Bleaching.

Step 4 – Post Bleaching Process

As the Bleaching process gets over Now it’s time to Sublimate your favorite design on the black shirt.

Step 5 – Sublimation of the Design on the Shirt

Before starting with the Sublimation design process I want to warn you that do not remove the Cardboard that is laid down in between the shirts because the ink that you have put may fall on the other side of the shirt and can destroy your process on sublimation on black shirts.

After you have noted that now it’s time to cut the excessive paper from the design with the use of a cutter and also use the resistant tape to tie the rest of the design with the butcher paper over the shirt.

Step 6 – Heat Press Use Case
Sublimation On Black Shirts

The most difficult and last step in this process is applying Heat Press. You have to set the temperature just a bit more than 385 degrees Fahrenheit, hold the press with a firm hand, and put it on the shirt, keeping it for a maximum of 60 seconds, and here your task is done.

Congratulation you have done it!

Method 2: The Siser EasySubli Method

Before moving ahead in the article I want to give you a brief of this method of doing Sublimation on black color shirts. The Siser EasySubli has two aspects, one is the Mark sheet (which we are not going to use in this method) and the other one is the HTV Sheet.

This HTV sheet has two sides, one side has a shiny finish and the other has a Matte Finish and we are going to do sublimation printing on the Matte side only.

Supplies Needed

  1. A Sublimation printer that should work with Cricut as in the previous method.
  2. Siser EasySubli – This is the most important element in this process.
  3. Cricut Easypress.
  4. Sublimation inks.
  5. Some wooden tools can help you out with small resistances in the process.
  6. Some Weeding Tools.
  7. Black Colored Shirt Blanks.
  8. Transfer Sheet.
Step 1 – HTV Sheet Printing

The first step in the Siser EasyBubli process is jointing the Printer with the Cricut. Followed by printing the design on the HTV Sheet. Now put back the Printed design sheet onto the Sublimation paper.

Note: Do not mirror the design because it is not required in an acrylic sheet.

Step 2 – Cutting the Design
Sublimation On Black Shirts

Load the printed design into the Cricut and Cut the design perfectly. Try not to do multitasking because it can lead to imperfection and chaos.

Step 3 – Weeding

After you have done the step, now you can start weeding the design with weeding tools. Remove any extra spaces from the design which are making it look not good.

Step 4 – HTV Sheet to Transfer Sheet

Start Peeling off the transfer Sheet and when it is done Put the peeled sheet to the back of the HTV Sheet and start transferring the design to the transfer sheet. Try to use any kind of card to remove air spaces between the sheet and the shirt.

Step 5 – Using Iron Press

The last step in the process comes with the use of Heat Press. You don’t have to place any type of cardboard in between the shirt, the only thing you need to do is mark the center of the shirt so that it can help you in measuring. Then you need to put up the transfer paper on the shirt, tie it up with heat tapes, and cover the whole piece with butcher paper.

Switch on the press with keeping or maintaining the temperature at 320 degrees Fahrenheit, just hold it for 1 minute and switch it off.

Hurray your task is complete.
